Honestly, I used to find routines challenging. My days seemed chaotic and dominated by technology, with self-care often relegated to the bottom of my priorities. However, once I began setting aside intentional time for myself daily, my days transformed.
For me, a daily routine isn’t about rigidity; it’s about creating anchors in my day that ground me. My morning starts with a simple ritual: I drink a glass of warm lemon water, roll out my yoga mat, and spend 10-15 minutes stretching or meditating. This small act sets the tone for the rest of my day. I also think of at least 3 things I am grateful for (different things each day) - there is always something to be grateful for! This practice has certainly changed the direction of my days and set a positive tone. I have so much to be thankful for.
Making time for a daily routine wasn’t easy at first. I had to get honest with myself about where my time was going. I realized I was spending far too much time scrolling on my phone or saying yes to things that didn’t align with my priorities. Once I identified my time-wasters, I started making intentional changes. I set boundaries for myself and my own screen-time, and got back to the things that bring me joy, such as reading, writing and learning.
What surprised me most was how these small moments of intentionality rippled into the rest of my life. By starting my day with mindfulness, I noticed I was more productive and less frazzled. My evening routine, which includes journaling and reading, helps me wind down and sleep better. These bookends to my day have become non-negotiable.
Making time for a daily routine isn’t about adding more to your plate - it’s about prioritizing what truly matters. Whether it’s journaling, walking, or simply sitting in silence, find something that nourishes you. Start small, be consistent, and watch how these little moments build into a life that feels more balanced and intentional. Over time, these routines become acts of self-love, reminding you that your well-being is worth prioritizing.
